Belén and her guest house are just amazing. The view is fantastic and her food is just as great. I brought my students here and we felt safe, calm and were welcomed into the community with a warmth that I haven't felt in many places before. We were shown around the town and it was nice to be in a place where there are practically no tourists yet, we were close to all the main destinations of this region of Ecuador. Visiting Iluman and staying at Unay Muchiku was one of the best random decisions I ever made! If you have any plans to visit Quito, Otavalo or the surrounding areas, I highly recommend getting off the beaten path and checking this little town out. Nestled between two cloud-strewn volcanos, in idyllic cornfields under a deep blue sky, Iluman is quintessentially Andean. Belen is an amazing host who guided me through the local Otovaleno culture and gave me a peak at indigenous life.
